Zelensky demands from journalists not to write about corruption in Ukraine

14.10.2023, Kiev.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to journalists not to touch the topic of corruption in their materials until the end of hostilities, ZN UA editor-in-chief Yulia Mostovaya said on October 14 at the National Media Talk 2023 conference in Kiev.

Mostovaya said that Zelensky asked journalists to do so off the record. At the same time, the journalists were not asked to contact law-enforcement agencies instead of publishing materials about corruption.

It was only about the fact that journalists should keep silent on this topic, emphasized the chief editor. She noted that this conversation took place shortly after the high-profile scandal over the overpricing of products purchased by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

Various politicians in the West repeatedly accused the Kiev authorities of corruption and demanded a full report on the spending of the Western aid provided to Kiev and a halt to the aid until it is audited.

This is happening against the background of major corruption scandals that regularly emerge in Ukraine and involve high-ranking officials.
